How to Configure Email Notification for System Alerts – Websense
Websense software can notify you via email when certain events occur, such as database download failure or Websense subscription expiration.

Use the Server > Settings > Alerts and Notifications screen in Websense Manager to set your notification preferences:
- Check the Email Alerts box to enable the configuration options for sending notifications via email.
- Enter the IP address or name of the SMTP Server through which email alerts should be routed.
- Enter the From Email Address (for example, WebsenseAlerts@mycompany.com). This email address will be listed as the sender of each email notification.
- Enter the Administrator Email Address (for example, sysadmin@mycompany.com). This is the primary address to which alerts should be sent.
- Enter any other email addresses to which the alerts should be sent in the Recipient Email Addresses field. Each email address should be on a separate line.
- Depending on your version of Websense software do one of the following:
- Expand the Alerts and Notifications node in the navigation tree, and then select System Alerts
- Select the System Alerts tab.
- In the Email column of the list of system alerts, check each alert for which you choose to receive email notification:
- An administrator is locked out from Policy Server due to logon failure
- Changes have been made to the Websense Master Database
- Database downloads fail
- Supported search engines for Search Filtering have changed
- The number of users on your subscription is exceeded
- The number of users reaches 90% of your subscription level
- Your subscription expires in one month
- Your subscription expires in one week
- Click OK to save your changes and exit the Settings screen.
Version 5.5.x
Use the Email Notification options to set your preferences for notification:
- Automatically send email notification - Check this option to enable email notification. You will not receive notifications if this box is not checked.
- Email address - Enter the complete email address from which the messages will be sent (for example, gphillips@mycompany.com).
- From address - Enter the complete email address to which the messages should be sent (for example, lfontana@mycompany.com).
- SMTP server - Enter the IP address of your email system’s SMTP server.
- Send email notification when:
- Database downloads fail
- The number of users reaches 90% of your subscription level
- The number of users on your subscription is exceeded
- Your subscription expires in one week
- Your subscription expires in one month
