To automatically obtain an IP address, your Mac OS X computer must be connected to a network that has a DHCP server.

Note: The following assumes you are using Mac OS X 10.1 or later.

  1. From the Apple menu, select System Preferences....
  2. In System Preferences, from the View menu, select Network.
  3. In the menu next to “Show:”, select the Ethernet option, usually termed either Ethernet orBuilt-in Ethernet.
  4. Click the TCP/IP tab, and next to “Configure IPv4:” or “Configure:”, select Using DHCP.
  5. In the “Search Domains:” field, enter the suffixes of domains you frequently access.At IUB, this list should include: ads.iu.eduAt IUPUI, include:

  6. Click the Apply Now button. You will immediately be able to use your network connection
