You cna find the instances of apache in the processlist by using  top command or you can gerp the httpd threds by using the following command

ps -ax | grep httpd

Tools such as top and ps may be used to examine your process list and determine the size of processes. The server-status handler, provided by mod_status, may be used to determine the total number of Apache processes running at a given time.

It is very Important to get Apache server status. it will help you to identify that what is happening inside your web server.
